Mechanical Desktop(r): Parametric Solid and Assembly Modeling
Published in Paperback by PWS Publishing Co. (12 June, 1997)
Author: Steven K. Howell
Average review score:

The finest intro to Parametric Solid and Assembly Modeling
Having read a number of books on Parametric Solid and Assembly Modeling, I can say assuredly that this book, although a bit dated now (copyright in 1998), is still the best introduction to this subject. This is because the author, Steven K. Howell, actually explains the rationale for using the various commands to construct various solids and then to assemble them together to form the final assembly. Whereas other books just have you pretty much follow a cookbook approach to constructing parametric solids and assemblies thereof, this book is chock full of explanations. As an indication of how highly I value this book, I periodically visit Amazon.com and other on-line bookstores just hoping that Mr. Howell has written another book on the subject. And when I don't find a later book, I search the internet for any news of a later book. If I had to pick just one book for learning any version of Mechanical Desktop (yes, even Version 5), this would be it.

The New Book of Saddlery and Tack
Published in Hardcover by Hungry Minds, Inc (May, 1998)
Authors: Carolyn Henderson, Howell Book House, and Charles de Kunffy
Average review score:

A thorough and excellent review of tack and saddlery...
I bought this book for my husband at Christmas, and we've both fallen in love with it. He looks at it so often it just sits on the floor by his chair now, never making it back to the bookcase. It contains over 250 pages of excellent information for the rider, English or Western, as well as historical information about the origins of tack and saddles.

The book starts out with a history of tack, up through the making of the modern saddle; covers specialty saddles; has an extensive section on bits, bridles and additional aids; covers driving and farm harnesses; various training aids, outlines a well-equipped stable; illustrates various cerimonial trappings, and shows us samples of riding dress.

There are thousands of marvelous photographs, both black & white as well as color; pages of line drawing illustrations; charts; diagrams; the works! It's not an inexpensive book, but for the serious rider it's well worth the investment. If you are such, don't hesitate, go for it!

Non-Linear Time Series: A Dynamical System Approach (Oxford Statistical Science Series, 6)
Published in Paperback by Oxford University Press (August, 1993)
Author: Howell Tong
Average review score:

Such a useful text!
I absolutely appreciated this book, which, in my opinion, perfectly matches with another book by Lawrence Perko titled "Differential equations and dynamical systems". The main reason why I think this is a very good book is that it deals in a quite clear and extremely precise way with the analysis of attractors for stochastic time series, also developing non trivial concepts such as Lyapunov functions and the study of chaos. Thanks to its completeness and to a great number of examples, it can be extremely useful for both the applied mathematician who wants to improve his or her knowledge concerning the analysis and the application of both deterministic and stochastic dynamical systems and for the econometrician as well. One only fault: it should have been written later: the concept of non linear cointegration could have been dealt with, making the text even more useful for econometricians. A must read, anyway.

The One-Eyed Giant (Tales from the Odyssey, 1)

Authors: Mary Pope Osborne, Troy Howell, and Homer Odyssey
Average review score:

I read it in one day it was so good!
This book was exciting, tense and kept me reading it. I love Ms. Osborne's style of writing. I ran out and bought the 2nd book the next day, and finished it that day.

My favorite part was when they met the one eyed giant.

The Pekinese Who Saved Civilization
Published in Paperback by Howell Canyon Pr (June, 2003)
Authors: Trisha Adelena Howell and Addison Silber Howell
Average review score:

Especially recommended for lovers of dogs
The Pekinese Who Saved Civilization by Sir Addison Silber Howell Esq. (with a little help from his personal assistant/body slave Trisha ) is a rather unique work of philosophy about ways in which to approach and address both personal and global problems -- couched from a canine viewpoint. Black-and-white photographs of a beloved Pekinese pet, and a distinctive touch of humor, embellish this essentially sound, sometimes inspirational work, and is most especially recommended for lovers of dogs, philosophy, and life.

Photographs by Snowdon: A Retrospective
Published in Hardcover by Harry N Abrams (01 November, 2000)
Authors: Antony Armstrong-Jones Snowdon, Simon Callow, Georgina Howell, Patrick Kinmonth, Anthony Powell, Carl Toms, Marjorie Wallace, Drusilla Beyfus, National Portrait Gallery (Great Britain), and Yale Center for British Art

Photography meets fine art meets human drama
If you watched the December 17, 2000 CBS News SUNDAY MORNING feature on Lord Snowdon, you would have noted the photographer's humility. He denies photography's place as a fine art and his significance in his work - the subjects are what is important.

No person with an eye trained to fine art could deny the quality of Lord Snowdon's talent. As a fellow professional photographer, I aspire to capture the human condition quite as Lord Snowdon does. The reader will find a variety of work - black & white and color, famous persons and ordinary people, sharp crisp work to grainy impressionist. Don't look for any ordinary pictures - each is dramatic in some varied fashion. Don't look for sensual nudes - a couple of tasteful nudes adorn the book.

The photo selection is an excellent representation of his 50 years as a photographic master. The book's technical presentation is superb, in terms of paper choice and printing techniques. I eagerly await Lord Snowden's exhibit at the Yale Center for the British Art. Thank you for your wonderful contributions, Lord Snowdon, and thank you Harry N. Abrams, Inc., Publishers!

Pocket Companion to Accompany Emergency Medicine
Published in Hardcover by W B Saunders (15 January, 2000)
Authors: John M. Howell and B. Tilman Jolly
Average review score:

The perfect companion in an emergency!
This book is an easy to use reference for the ER doctor. It offers rapid access to the essentials or emergency medicine in an simple format. The book starts with the ABC's: beginning with respiratory failure. The format is set up in a way in which we would approach the typical ER patient. The language is concise, direct, without being pedantic. Comparing it to the 'other' ER pocket companion, Tintinalli's, this book has not the depth but makes up for this in readibility and superior treatment essentials. The reader most likely to benefit is the resident or mid level practitioner. A good addenum to any ER doc's armamentarium.
